Dr. Tom DeVries recently retired after 22 years of teaching geology, physical science, environmental science, oceanography, and geology at Vashon High School. He earned his PhD in geology at Ohio State University and since that time has maintained an active paleontological research program in Peru.
Tom's hour-long presentation for Vashon 101 takes a long view on the island's ecology, examining how the island's plant associations have successively changed in response to climate changes since the Ice Ages of the late Pleistocene.
